Death by Design

Death by Design

This latest Cetin Ikmen mystery really puts the inspector through the wringer. Besides being on the outs with his wife, Fatma, Ikmen goes undercover in London, England, posing as an illegal immigrant where he learns firsthand the powerlessness of poverty and statelessness. He also gets tortured while trying to infiltrate a counterfeit goods ring linked to a terrorist threat – all the while having to lie to his friends and family about his whereabouts and activities. As usual, Barbara Nadel has written a fine, gritty contemporary police thriller set partly in Turkey. I highly recommend this whole series. Somehow, I missed the book leading up to this one so I’m immediately going back to that one next to see how things got to the state they’re in at the beginning of this one. Good stuff. (BH)
